BIOGRAPHY

Hermann Fitzi Art

Hermann Fitzi, the Swiss and Italian painter, was born in Gais, Switzerland the 30. December 1935.

From 1960 onwards he lived nearby Florence, Italy. His research basically followed two development-lines that induced him to express himself both through formal abstract and figurative painting.

After a first period of figuration in the style of his masters at the Florentine Art Academy (Ottone Rosai, Primo Conti, Rolf Meyer) Fitzi developed a strong interest for New-York style Abstract expressionism and pursued his work in the domain of abstract painting. In this time arises his cooperation with the Italian avant-garde: Artecronaca under the guidance of the art critic Lara Vinca Masini.

In the context of the developing Trans-Avantgarde in 1980, the need was felt to put the means of figuration, especially in their De Chirico inspired variety, again to test. The result was Fitzi’s surrealist art. A variation of the Italian Trans-Avantgarde painting that proposes a sort of reflexive modernity art that critically revisits the great themes of the artistic avant-gardes of modernity, redesigning the art of the late 20th century.

A major production of symbolic paintings ensued that addresses the essential questions of our age: life, beauty, the relationship between women and man; yet also climate change, genetic engineering, and war.

Hermann Fitzi passed away in Florence on 17 June 2012. His art continues to revolve around Surrealist art, Italian Trans-Avantgarde painting, Swiss Avantgarde, and Reflexive modernity art
